Many new photos

For those of you friends with AJ on facebook, I just added 70 new photos! I'm not going to repost them all here, so head over to https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=624643447 to check them out. Here's a few of my favs:

Happy New Year! (Thai New Year)

Okay.. officially the sickest holiday on the face of the planet! Besides the no new investigators, and the really cold water down your pants, and the crazy women, trannies... and men, and the "nobody interested in religion" part about the holiday, its great! You could totally feel it in the air on monday and tuesday.. everyone comes back from Bangkok to be with their families and there were just SO many cars. Wednesday morning, we only had 1 little kid squirt us with water.. as we biked to Krisinas house there was just NOBODY playing. After we were done teaching, around 830, we biked back.. i can never forget the first time i got soaked: Biking down a hill, completely dry, and then seeing a GROWN adult, with a huge bucket of water, rushing at me, giggling at his own antics followed by the soaking of the water.. right on my LAP. So cold too! After that.. well it just continually escalated. We tried to talk to people and its just like.. nobody cared haha.. they just wanted to throw water on us. Its really quite funny to watch actually.. just EVERYONE is in the back of pick up trucks, or on the side of rides, dumping water on each other, excluding no one. It was a good thing then, cause we took a nice road trip out to Brother Promise again.. however, everyone was playing out there as well! In fact, we made it into this one town square and they were playing heavier than Warin. Pretty dangerous too.. we saw this one guy smack a kid driving a motorcycle with powder and he almost crashed. Yeah.. crazy right?

Anyway, of things that are important, Him and his wife are progressing quite superbly. They have a testimony of Joseph Smith and they are making serious changes to their lives to prepare for baptism. The best part about it though, is that we just met another investigator who has a serious problem with alcohol. Yesterday I introduced this new man to Brother Promise and just asked him to give him encouragement.. i barely said a word throughout that lesson. I sat there in tears watching this man, Brother Promise, tell another man how to get rid of the filth that is alcohol.. the filth that he JUST got rid of himself. It was miraculous. Brother Promise walked him through the next 2 weeks.. he told him every feeling he will have.. every pain he will experience.. EVERYTHING thats gonna blow about the next 2 weeks, and then topped it off by saying, "you cannot do it without God and his son. Every time you feel like you cant go on, get on your knees and pray. Ive quit before but never like this.. my addiction will never come back because I trust God". The support that Brother Promise was giving was so epic.. like, I didnt have to do anything. We plan to see this new man, Brother Rag, everyday until the 29th of May to get him baptized. He will need a lot of help, but he can do it. Pray this man guys.. he needs it.

So Krisina had her interview this past Saturday.. unfortunately she didnt pass. She had a slip up with the Word of Wisdom but she has already made the decision to fix it once and for all. So according to the standard, we gotta wait 2 weeks to be sure. Her faith and testimony are extremely strong though.. not a problem at all. By the way she says thanks to anyone that knows me. Especially you, sweet parents :)

Last but not least: Thursday! Wow.. it was so crazy. We got permission to play.. and man was it fun. By 11 oclock, the streets were absolutely packed. It was almost impossible to bike. So we walked. We had about 20 people in our group and there would be little kids throwing water on us, followed by a mob of 20 mormons rushing them haha.. they just ran away. This holiday would never fly in America.. for 1, it definitely breaks the decibal limit for music.. at EVERY house. The sitting in pick up trucks, well that would be a problem too.. the "shooting people in the faces with water guns as people are driving motorcycles" part.. yeah probably dangerous as well. All in all, its great! The last day, Friday, was just over the top. We left the house and made it 10 FEET, before we were completely soaked. Not just like, a little sprinkle.. no, soaked. The house across the street decked us with a bucket of water. The street above our street? Wow.. we tried to avoid it, but its kinda hard. Red lights? Four way intersections? Yeah, worst night mare for a missionary.. why? Cause you have to stop! Gives people time to just mob you. One day ill show you the videos.. but for now, you can try to imagine what its like, but you have NO IDEA. personally? I enjoyed SongKran.. biking in the heat and getting dumped on by cold water? Its actually a good combination haha. Speaking of heat.. Saturday morning at 9 ocklock it was 38 defrees celcius. Thats 100 degrees. Cold right? hahaha

Well thats all i got for now.. love ya guys. Although it was a crazy week, we still had some serious miracles happen. Its amazing to see people use even the smallest amount of faith to trust in God, and see results. But thats how it really is.. He is bound by his promise to bless us.

Love

Elder Gudmundsen

P.S: Go find people for the missionaries!

Happy New Year!

Thai New year that is.. the madness is starting! You can feel it in the air.. the streets are getting progressively louder and little kids shooting you with water guns is a good sign Song Gran is here. Actually, grown men who are in the middle of working and stop to shoot you through a tiny window is ALSO a good sign that its here. Ive yet to get super wet, but gotten some nice squirts... also i havent had anyone get me really wet with water.. (hahah if you understand what i just said, good job.. sorry for the TMI.. i dont know what i ate alright! It was a rough couple days).

So.. this week.. conference! Was way good! Except for the fact that the Branch President had no idea what time the sessions started. Sunday morning session started at 8 and everyone got there at 9. But.. the stuff that we did see was really good. It was interesting to see the difference in how my Thai has grown in the last 6 months... quite significantly. But, in the end, English is always better. I listened to about half of all the sessions in thai and the other half in English. If i were to listen to President Uchtdorf's talks in thai? Dang.. good luck. How does he speak english better than english speakers? Insane.

So what was special this week.. well we drove out 60 kilometers like we planned :) They were SO nice.. they have a tiny house but they made it all nice for us and made sure they had cold fanta and warm cooked corn waiting for us. Very sweet. Its REALLY weird out there.. a lot of nothing.. and hot. Anyway, taught a sweet lesson and took about 5 minutes to say hi to the neighborhood.. and EVERYONE in it. I dont think anyone there had seen a foreigner in their lives.. let alone 2 that could speak thai (and easan). The whole neighborhood was very welcoming and extremely nice. I have some pictures out there that i know youll just love! But this interent cafe doesnt have a card reader. Anyway, the families out there are progressing very well.. they love us to death and Brother Had is right there with them.. The kids didnt meet with us cause they are very shy and one was actually down in Bangkok.. but we are going to go ahead and baptize them on the 30th as planned.

Yesterday was awesome.. Sister Krisina (yes that is the same name as Krisina Lewis.. its where he name is from actually haha) got permission from her husband to be baptized! She was so excited to tell us when we visited her last night.. could barely contain her joy. We had all fasted for her the week before and it payed off.. woohoo! Her desire to be baptized is seriously like, overflowing. Its hard to decide what member we should take to go teach with us because she is seriously the teacher most of the time! Her faith has grown so much in the past couple months.. her patience and endurance in things that she cant really control.. its very inspiring. Gonna be a sweet day when shes baptized in the coming weeks.. sadly, the 2 missionaries that met here arent here, and Sister Natcha died already haha.. but im sure they will all have much joy when they see the pictures (same with you no?). Dont know what day yet cause she wants her husband to be there too, and his schedule is pretty unsure. But either way, shes getting baptized this month!

Okay so thats mostly all i got.. yesterday was a sweet baptism in between sessions.. Brother Somchay, ma boy(!), baptized him! The one baptized is named Brother Jay... i was the first to teach him because one tuesday after noon he walked into Church, walked up to us and asked, "what do i have to do to be a member?" We told him. He accepted. He got his answer. He got baptized yesterday. He wants to be a missionary. Its that simple! Some people make it really difficult but its not at all! Kinda like Christian Ball over there right? Told that girl she needs to get her butt to Church and get her parents there too.. thats legit Christian. I tip the hat im not wearing off to you.

My phrase(s) of the week:from our beloved Prophet Thomas S. Monson:
1.) "I Like that." (if you know why i loved this, you win! You win nothing, but at least you know me!)
2.) "If you hadn't read the Book of Mormon... READ IT." werd. Go read it!

The last one is from someone else.. just think about it and then tell me what you think im getting at:
"Its not about the money..." ... got it yet? Hahah.. yeah thats right

Okay so seriously, conference was way good. Another 6 months? NOOOO! Its too long! Hey what'er..

So go check out the pics i posted.. i had a bunch but its taking a long time.. i got some up though.

I need a new Book of Mormon... the same as i have now: Black leather bound, triple combination, name as "Elder Gudmundsen" this time. Can you please get me that, and send it to me as fast as you can please.. ill tell you why later :)

Okay all i got for today.. gonna get review the baptismal interview questions with Krisina and then have a nice companion exchange over with Elder Charit. ITS HOT! Love you all.. everything we do, everything we say we believe is so true... make sure you're sharing it with people! At least 1 person every week!

Love, Elder Gudmundsen

Sup

So our district up here is very special.. at this one church building for the past 6 weeks its been 4.5 asian missionaries (im the half) and 1.5 foreigners. Its pretty unique. And we are all very CRAZY. Just put it simply, we like to have fun, sometimes its a little too crazy haha.. but anyway... Elder Tom (my companion) moved down to Bangkok and is a zone leader already, Elder Fowles moved up to Chiang Rai (just go look at pictures.. its beautiful.. thai people call it "heaven) and Sister Natcha died (finished her mission)... so as they were all leaving (which was quite sad actually.. the 6 of us were super tight in only 6 weeks), we're looking at whose left: the 3 craziest ones of the Group! Myself, Elder Charit and Sister Supansa.. we kinda figured that we would have to get 3 new companions who are anything BUT crazy. So it is.. 3 americans too. Elder Charit's is the most normal. My companion? Hes.. different. Total utard ahaha.. Hes way nice and his Thai is excellent (people say the best in the mission... just wait, im coming up right behind him) and he is pretty into the work. So its not that we wont get along, but.. i dont have pictures today, but just wait.. when you see him you will know what i mean hahaha. Hey! Dont get mad at me i just speak the truth! Dont worry i love him.  And then Sister Supansas is also kinda like him.. just are personalities are so far apart. No worries.. Ill be with him 1 transfer.. It'll be a good learning experience for all of us for sure.

So lets get right into it.. I LOVE this new family.. i think i mentioned them 2 weeks ago.. the father has been an alcoholic for 15 years.. yeah.. 15! The past 9 days? Hasnt smoked or drank a sip of alcohol! Hes quit! What you have to understand is that this family is 60 kilometers away.. to refresh your memory, they are a referral from a member; the exact type of investigator ive been praying for! They have the support system from a close friend and they knew exactly what they were getting into when they were invited to come to Church. Brother Had (the member) is doing sooo good too.. He works at the same place with this family and keeps him excited and gives him support and encouragement. Now.. the most important thing is that ive met this family 3 times in the past 3 weeks.. yeah. So just try and imagine the change in this guy that i have to describe over the internet: Week 1: Whole body is shaking... eyes and face just look distressed and he can barely contain himself... his speech is slurred and his entire countenance is just crying out for help. Week 2: Little better... the quakes and shakes have gone down a little bit and he can keep himself together. Week 3, Yesterday: Smiled the entire day, participated in the class discussions, laughed... to put it simply (and in his own words) "The man 3 weeks ago did not come today..." If you're not crying yet, you should be! I am right now in this internet cafe! Try and imagine this... THREE WEEKS.. thats it! This wednesday we are so driving out there and teaching him and his entire family.. they all have a baptismal date for the 30th of April. The joy in his eyes.. everything just says "thank you." Hes a new man and he credits it all to Jesus Christ.. he understands our Saviors role and knows he couldnt have done this any other way. He grabbed me hand yesterday and looked me in the eyes and said the most heartfelt, sincere "thank you" ive ever heard and seen in my life. Whats even more incredible is that his family is not the only family we will teach when we drive 60 kilometers out there.. there are 2 other families who have seen their alcoholic neighbor quit "everything that is not of Christ" and are wondering, "what the heck?!" Brother Had brought one of those to Church yesterday too! The other family we will meet out there too. Scripture of the week: 3 Nephi 12: 14 to 16... read it.. be the light! I read this for this father (by the way his name is Promise) and he about lost it.. his prayer was amazing too. His 2 kids have been praying and reading the Book Of Mormon too.. have we ever met them? Nope. haha.. they saw their dad change and are just like, "ubuhh..." AHHH... its so epic! I cant even describe the feelings yesterday.

Who else? Or what else? uhnnyuh... So how was conference? Im stoked for it! Get the less actives to it! We have this one member... FAR from acti---i mean LESS active member, who agreed to go to it.. its a great opportunity for people to hear the Prophet! Duh.. Seriously, bet it was sweet wasnt it?

By the way i got the package.. oh yeah! Delicious.. the Sour Patch was at the very bottom underneath the beef jerky and for a moment i saw all the goodies and thought "WHAT?! THEY FORGOT SOUR PATCH!@&*#*(@^$@#Q$Y*(&" but as it turns out, nay :)  love you! Susan did you throw in the fruit by the foots? If those are actually from my parents, nevermind.. love you anyway :)   So next week dont be alarmed if we dont email on a monday (sunday for you) as we usually do.. next week is Song Gran (thai new year) and its the water party! Seriously, the entire country just drinks and plays with water for like an entire straight week.. dont even try to imagine it because all the missionaries who have experience it say its beyond imagination.. "Its too awesome!" Seriously, everyone says no work gets done at all.. like, almost impossible. So, if thats the case, they will move our P-day to the first day of Song Gran which would be a wednesday. But im not sure.. just a heads up. Its gonna be legit! Just everyone throws water and powder at each other for like 3 straight days.. Elder Harris (new zone leader) said last year he didnt get 50 feet from his house before he was straight soked. Cool eh?

K all i got this week... that family suffices no? Love you all.. The Word of Wisdom? Yeah, its so true.. Repentance? Its the key to happiness. Love it. Love you all, miss you (kind of.. but really? Not really).

Bye bye

Sup

Oops - I missed posting one. This is from March 28.

So... Brother Yong rocked it! One of the sickest kids ever! One who GETS IT. Look back on it.. we met this kid 4 weeks ago.. he got baptized yesterday. His desires were true, his intent was true, and his faith was strong. Moronis promise is so simple, but so difficult at the same time... for some people. Brother Yong got his answer within the first 3 lessons. Yesterday was very special.. we had 2 more souls come into the fold: Yong from our Area and a sister named Noy from the Citys area. It was great.. and the spirit was on fire because we had all our members there! This is why i like baptisms on sunday.. because the members got to the see the baptismal service. We had a jump in the number of people at Church.. which is a good thing.. they are trying to separate The City's area from the Warin area.. but they need 120 people going to church for 6 months.. its a roller coaster.. some weeks 100 and others 70.. including missionaries and investigators (which is about 20). Its a work in progress. Anyway.. Brother Yong was a Monohan yesterday! He barely stood up to bare his testimony and he was already balling! Sorry Monohans.. you know i love you :)     He bore strong testimony of the power of pray and his relationship with God that hes just now discovered.. he explained how there are few people in the world who really understand us... when we ask a question, they hear something else. But when i talks with God, He understands his feelings and his life gets better. Its crazy to describe.. but hes just so fantastic. We will give him a copy of Preach My gospel this week too. Other thing that was sweet was that Brother Somchay was one of the speakers at the service.. haha he was so nervous! But he did a good job.. one thing that was... "interesting": He held up Preach My Gospel and some of the members faces has this "what the heck is that" look on their face.. dangit! Thats like me before my mission! Everyone needs that book! Anyway... Church was quite the tear fest.. Sister Natcha (one of the Thai missionaries here.. also one of the best) is dying this wednesday (finishing, going home!) and she bore her testimony.. it was very powerful and made me... reflect a lot. Ill probably explain on a later day :)  Anyway, many people cried haha.

Sorry today i dont have a lot of time, but i dont have a lot pictures.. ill send em next week. I didnt get the birthday package cause i havent gone to Bangkok yet! We're going on wednesday.. yeah! A train again! This will be the first american companion in 6 months... at least im pretty sure it will be an American.. if i get a 3rd thai companion in a row?! Holy snikes! Thats like un heard of! But either, it will be a good change (hopefully). Elder Tom is going zone leader! Woot.

Hey i gotta go.. sorry this was short.. i have a headache and am very tired from soccer.. we won though, thats what matters haha. Jk. Okay im outa here.. thanks for the love and support. By the way, we felt nothing from the Earthquake.. it hit bangkok cause they have huge buildings.. but our in Ubon, we felt nothing. Kinda scary no? Bunch of stuff going on with this here planet. Its the end! Everyone get your looting clothes ready! Just kidding.. but seirously?
